Happy Saturday to you and what a great football weekend lined up for us all. A Detroit and Baltimore Super Bowl is what America wants to see! Two of the Greatest Cities in America and two cities that I am fortunate enough to be deeply tied to. Detroit was the Big City of my youth. Auto Shows with Mackinac Island fudge, the Detroit Institute of Art, Tigers Games, Red Wings games, Pizza Papalis in Greektown, F1 in the city, concerts all over at different venues especially The Magic Stick, dancing at Marilyn's on Monroe, Beethoven's 9th at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit River, going over the Ambassador Bridge to drink legally in Canada at 19. The first drink I ever took at a bar was a Labatt Blue at Dean Martini's in Windsor.
And then life, in its circuitous ways, drew me to Baltimore in 2014. Nursing had called me and I wanted to train with and study along side the Best. The decision was between University of Washington and Johns Hopkins. I flew down to Baltimore one weekend in April for Accepted Students Day and really fell in love with the city then and there. The people are just fabulous. They are the best people in the world. I've never had so many "strangers" give me thumbs or said an encouraging word while just out for an afternoon run. The best AA groups I met with were in the city. The Pennsylvania Ave AME Church meeting on Saturday afternoons was not to be missed. Fantastic fellowship there.
I've heard San Francisco is on the decline, a bubble bursting sometime long before the Pandemic. And Team Taylor has had their day. 2024 is a different kind of year. I think everyone is anticipating something. My hope is that 2024 is the Year of the Underdog of Extreme Talent. One day between us and reality. Go Lions! Go Ravens! There are not enough superlatives for me to write a piece on Lamar.
